  • Vacuum your floors and upholstery thoroughly. You should always check and make sure that your vacuum is cleaned out so that it has enough room for all of the dust and soot. You should also check to be sure that  your vacuum cleaner has a high efficiency filter that will help sort and clean the dust. Otherwise, you risk blowing soot back into the air, which then becomes even more of a health hazard.

  • Some draperies, curtains, couch cushions, chair cushions, and your clothing and machine-washable items should laundered professionally in order to both protect that fabric and materials, as well as make sure that they get the deepest clean possible. Always dry clean your fine clothing and anything you are unsure of. On the same token, have your carpet professionally cleaned so that the fire damage can be erased entirely!
